" What tangled web we weave when first we practice to deceive"
Sir Walter Scott
This quote came to mind , when I came across a photo of a spider web I took early one morning at a time of season I long for just now.
I find it amusing ,that just merely the sight of a spider in the house sends people running for a weapon to kill it. This is sad, because spiders are really our friends. They are beautiful. And they are , along with birds and bees and other valuable wild life, declining.
Spiders are eight-legged,silk-spinning critters that can kill up to a million biting, bloodsucking bugs a year.
There are more than 30,000 known species in the world , 2,000 of them living in Canada.
While the idea , that you might never be more than a meter away from a spider will certainly increase your arachnophobia, it delights me.
Spiders are not insects. They have 8 legs instead of 6. That makes them a class of their own: Arachnids.
....and what a beautiful web they weave!!

Renata, while your images are beautiful, I am not sure that my fear of thses will decrease. The web with dew drop on it is my favorite. I was reading through your post but as I got further on I had to go quick as my fear was taking over. I could not look any longer.
Your photos are beautiful. I love the one of the water droplets on the spider web. It could be in National Geographic.
My Renate, you are SOOOOOO good at this! I must sound like a broken record, but STUNNING is the word for your photography, and don't you dare try to give credit to your camera. lol You are good!
You may be interester to know that Santa put a really cool tool in Renoman's stocking this year. It's a spider catcher for removing spiders from the house without harming them. You can see it here http://www.leevalley.com/garden/page.aspx?c=&p=44895&cat=2,51555.
Thanks my friends for the encouraging remarks.
So sorry Tammy. From a photographers point of view they are a lovely subject.
And Sue, I will have to get one of those catchers. And broken records sound lovely on this page.
Angela, you think very highly of my work. Thanks again.
Wow! Great work - do you own a dedicated macro lens? I seem to struggle with these kind of images with a (pricey) close-up filter but it's not the same as having a true macro lens.
Superbaldguy, I don't have a special Macro lens. Just the lens that came with my Rebel XTi
Hi Renate, I'm posting a comment for my mom :-)
"I am glad I opened the computer this morning. I don't always {Renate's} flowers and insects are beautiful pictures.
I am so glad you sent them. {DH} and I have always respected spiders and allowed them in our house. I agree, they are our friends!"
