Overdue Activities

Where do I find time to do a blog?
These activities are slightly outdated, and new photos are waiting to be recorded. .But I intended to show you the life of this gardener throughout the year.
This very windy and rainy day is perfect to finally create this blog.

 I created a little resting place near the new fence  to relax and watch the seedlings grow..

on April 6th I planted  beets , carrots , radish, spinach, lettuce  in the garden.

Sorry, you dear deer !!

We love deer.They are beautiful creatures. We love them even after they have finished off  kale and broccoli, pruned all the strawberries in very early spring, jumped over the electric fence, and eaten some of my shrubs.
So up goes the new  6 foot fence.
Trying to be as economical as possible, it is not the most beautiful looking fence. But it is a labor of love and brings us peace of mind. Or does it? They would not jump, would they?

I am digging up the sod along the new fence  for my pole bean row. I visualize scarlet runners and the new purple and pink beans adorning the fence and attracting  the hummingbirds.

Every year the patio bricks grow an unsightly garden. We discovered this fantastic tool to scrape the vegetation.

I transplanted this "dead" rose bush ,showing some green growth , into the new garden. Might grow!!

The solarium is still a lovely place to be in on these cold mornings.

From the diary of a happy gardener.

On a hot day in March

Since this recent heatwave was a historical event I feel inspired to post some thoughts and photos.
Some people relished the HEAT on March 22nd , I was not impressed. Not only did I find it too hot to work in my garden but in general am scared of this global warming.
I did go out and recorded the progress of nature's awakening so early in my yard.

We installed the pump and filter early this year. The fish seemed eager to start their feeding.

 

The ducks are still coming to visit , but will soon make their nest by the river and raise their babies

 

The crocus are still in full  bloom but did not care for yesterdays strong wind

 

There are even some edible yummies growing in my garden. I love Sorrel. It  is a very hardy perennial and wonderful in salads and on sandwiches. Next to it's very hardy partner the Chives, they are a lovely early treat for my sandwich.

 

 

Just to make my sandwich even better, which is by the way made with my own whole wheat bread with wheat germ added, I sprout seeds especially in Winter.

The bushes and trees are budding nicely, Forsythia , lilac and pussy willow.

 

 

and even the first frog dared to come out of hibernation.He looks very sleepy still and thinks he made a mistake. Since it is freezing again , he has disappeared for another while.

 

We will get through the next snowfall and keep enjoying nature as it presents itself. .

Adorable Michael David

I don't have too many new posts, because I never have much to say.
But I have seen very small blogs and so I think it's ok. to make a very small post just once.
 I do this , because the birth of little Michael David Pittman, on Thursday , 8th of March 2012  is so very important and exciting.
And I want to share this happy event with my family and friends.
Bob and I visited the happy parents, Alyssa and Jeremy Pittman and baby on Friday and took some photos. Some of them are not very good quality because we turned off the flash .It might have been too bright for the baby.
The visit was a wonderful experience . Mom and baby are doing well. And look at that happy and proud Dad!!

Some of my recent winter activeties

I have not created a blog in a long while. So I thought it was about time to have my family and friends far and wide see what I have been up to. Not too much!! After all , it's hibernation time. My busy gardening  will arrive too soon. So I am enjoying my leisure time a lot, doing this and that.
I have inherited a lovely single reflex Nikon Camera from my dear brother and love it. not too many photo opportunities in the winter. After all I am a flower girl.

Bob and I love to go on our daily walks. The highlight is usually visiting the barn which is now housing the animals for winter. They don't look very happy and long for spring. We try to rub them and talk to them for a while.

 

  

Since I always strive to eat healthy food, I am always on the lookout for new things to make . With the help of my dear friend Sue I discovered Kale chips .  We love them. The apple chips are already a staple in the winter and so are the sprouts.   

 

 

this year I have put painting on the back burner and delved into crafts. While in Germany I started knitting socks and scarfs. And I actually got out my sewing machine  to attend a little project at church  making Valentines runners. Sadly ,I had forgotten how to thread a bobbin but it all came back quickly and I enjoyed the project immensely. The scarfs and the socks are making very slow progress.I usually only knit when on vacation. But eventually they too will get done. 

Last , but not least here is proof that I have not given up on painting . I have not produced a single real picture , but I have made a few sketches  just so I won't get all rusty.
